Medium - 30 inch butterfly
Sandy Newell was born in Chicago and currently resides in Scottsdale. She works primarily in watercolor, using a pouring technique to create unexpected textures and reactions. Sandy received her BFA from the University of Illinois and her MBA from Loyola University of Chicago. She began her career as a graphic designer and successfully operated her own design studio for 15 years. She also taught art at the local grade school for several years, learning as much from her students as they did from her. 10 years ago she began painting full time and it has been a dream come true.
Sandy is a member of the Arizona Watercolor Society and in 2021 received an Award of Distinction for her painting”OMG”. She is represented by On the Edge Gallery in Old Scottsdale and The Finer Arts Gallery in Cave Creek.
This piece is based on her watercolor painting of a zebra titled “Handsome”. Animals are a common subject matter in her work.
