The Journey from Orphan to Soke is largely a first person narrative accompanied by focused, honest questions and answers, as well as star-studded tributes. Frederick Douglas Peterson, a 96 year old WWII veteran, tells his story from orphan to Soke (a title given to a venerable teacher of martial arts who has been granted permission to start his own style of teaching). This story is made even more poignant by the fact that his journey intersects directly with the prime objectives of Heroes' Hearts Inc., our Heroes' Helping Heroes Project, and our mission to oppose discrimination and abuse in all forms.
The author, Soke Peterson is black American hero who served at the end of WWII and whose story parallels the ongoing American conflict of systemic racism, through the eyes of one black orphan who rose beyond his limitations to become a model of resiliency.
