Miyawaki Forest Groundbreaking

We are so excited to announce our Planting Day for the Miyawaki Forest on December 9th beginning at 10am!

At 10am, Indigenous leaders from Duwamish and Yakima communities will lead an opening ceremony followed by planting which will begin at 11:00am and end about 2:00pm. 

There will be limited opportunities to plant on a first come first served basis but refreshments and informative booths as well as activities are available for everyone’s enjoyment.

The Forest

The Miyawaki Urban Forest will be focused on educating about the intersection of the natural and human history of our area.

The forest will become self-sustaining in 2-3 years and will become a haven for wildlife as well as work to remove carbon from the atmosphere at an exponentially higher rate than a traditional forest.
