The District 5495’s Interact Ambassadors Program to Kenya and Mexico partners with Crutches4Africa and ALEM. This program is unique in that Rotary District 5495 is the only district in the world offering high school students the opportunity to train and serve at an international level. We challenge people’s unexamined assumptions of what people with disabilities can and cannot do. We are dedicated to empowering people with disabilities while focusing on the growth and development of youth in our community. This program also allows us to strengthen bridges of peace and service with our partners in Kenya and Mexico.
International Impact
Throughout the year District 5495 partners with Crutches4Africa to collect wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, canes and other mobility devices for shipment to Kenya. The Ambassador team assists with distribution in country to those in need regardless of their race, gender, tribe, age or religion. In Mexico, District 5495 partners with Autonomia Libertad de movimento (ALEM) which is an incredible team of women and men with disabilities who have become a wheelchair production and repair team.
