2nd Annual Rotary Art for Peace Contest

"What Peace Means To Me"
COMMUNITY

$949 Raised

$2,850 goal

We are raising money for the District level awards for the 2nd Annual Art for Peace Contest.

The Art for Peace Contest connects Rotary Clubs in District 5320 with family oriented shelters  in their neighborhoods.

Shelter residents are encouraged to express "What Peace Means to Me" in any easily transportable medium that they choose to work in.

Each participating club gathers the art produced and holds an informal club level  "judging" in which the 1st and 2nd place winners in each of three age groups are chosen. Children up to 12 years old, Teens 13 to 19 and Adults 19 and older.

Rotary clubs often supply art materials as well as all club level awards. Typically, this is $100 for 1st place, $50 for 2nd place for each age category and $25 to everyone who produces any expression of what peace means to them.

Connections are formed between Rotary clubs and a local shelter for future positive interaction and the judging process allows Rotarians the opportunity to contemplate what peace means to neighbors who are often experiencing some pretty tough circumstances.

The artists are given a voice and the opportunity to express themselves to an audience of people who care about what they have to say. For certain, any awards earned are much needed and will be hugely appreciated.

The 1st place winners in each age category of  club level judging then go on to District Level judging which has awards of $200 for 1st place, $100 for 2nd and $50 for 3rd.

Should this fund raising effort be successful enough we would like to award every participant whose art makes it to the District level an honorable mention award of $25 and create a Grand Prize of $300.

The club participation for the 2nd Annual Art for Peace Contest doubled over the 1st Annual to Ten clubs.

Over 150 artists will participate in this year's contest. We expect it to double again for the 3rd Annual Art for Peace Contest in 2023.

There are many benefits to Rotary Clubs and their members that come from this in the form of  relationships formed and strengthened, direct assistance to some of the most vulnerable among us and perhaps most importantly, recognition of a positive effort to members of our community who could really use an esteem raising experience.

However, we need your help. Please be generous.

Yours in Rotary Service, John
